Ohio's Heartbeat bill...our neighbors to the East are on the right track

3 weeks and 1 day after fertilization a tiny baby's heart starts beating.
As wonderful as our pro-life bill (HB 1210) was last year (get a reminder of all the details here), it only bans abortion from 20 weeks of pregnancy.  So, all those babies from conception up to 20 weeks are unprotected.
Ohio has an interesting solution to this problem...ban all abortions after the baby has an audible heartbeat.  Granted, an audible heartbeat may not be heard until 4 weeks or later and that still leaves some unborn babies unprotected.  However, that would drastically cut the number of abortions and move Ohio into the right direction.
I think Indiana should follow suit with one exception.  Where Ohio leaves it up to the abortion doctor to audibly hear the heartbeat, Indiana should ban abortions 3 weeks and 1 day after fertilization...period.  It's hard to argue that an unborn child with a heartbeat does not deserve protection.
Pastor Jim Garlow spoke at a rally in Ohio in favor of the Heartbeat bill.  As Jim shares below, he has been very involved with the Pulpit Initiative project to get the government out of the pulpit.  The government should not be in the business of censoring sermons.  In fact, the Church must act as the conscience of the State...to challenge it when it is guilty of injustice.
