Mission

Advance conservative principles among Indiana’s underutilized pool of successful leaders, especially from under-served regions and professional tracks.

The Series

The Hoosier Congressional Policy Leadership Series (The Series) will inform, motivate, and raise awareness of the conservative philosophy in order to produce an increased sense of community trustee-ship through monthly meetings, readings, and interaction with experts, leaders, and decision-makers from across Indiana.

Distinctives

The Series will stand out from similar groups within Indiana through the following:

  1. Congressional member participation as partners in a statewide movement dedicated to cultivating conservative leadership.
  2. Attentiveness to federal issues and statewide concerns. We will cover the totality of the public policy process—including interplay between and among federal, state, and local communities, with a special focus on non-government resources.

  1. Targeting underserved/underutilized constituencies in the following communities:
    1. Faith-based
    2. Academia
    3. Not-for-profit
    4. Business
    5. Government
  2. Inclusive admissions process through a statewide, rather than regional or professional focus.
  3. Fostering connectedness within the conservative community through annual events for current participants and future alumni.

Program Objectives

  1. Connect like-minded leaders from around the state.
  2. Hold monthly meetings around the state and feature prominent conservatives to speak on a given topic.
  3. Host an annual event for alumni and current participants.
  4. Facilitate an annual trip to Washington, D.C. for current participants.
  5. Produce a network of conservative-minded leaders.
  6. Emphasize political philosophy and public service in monthly readings and presentations.

General Policies

Each year up to twenty-five outstanding leaders will be selected for the program through a competitive selection process.

Members of each class will have significant personal, professional and/or community life experiences and represent every corner of Indiana.  Individuals who have demonstrated extensive leadership skills in the workplace or in community service and who are interested in politics and government will be encouraged to apply.

The Series is not designed as a springboard for graduates to attain political office or public service positions.  Rather, it will serve as an opportunity for graduates to experience new levels of personal achievement and public involvement.

Attendance at the orientation, the annual event and the monthly sessions is mandatory for participants to graduate from the program.  Attendance requirements dictate that only one of these gatherings may be missed during the year.

The Hoosier Policy Leadership Series, the Indiana Family Institute and our partners reserve the right to excuse participants from the program if attendance proves unsatisfactory or if ethical or program standards are not met.

Candidate Selection Criteria
Candidates should:

1. Possess high standards of personal integrity.
2. Demonstrate an interest in their community and have a record of participation/achievement in voluntary community activities and/or professional success.
3. Commit to the required time to participate actively.
4. Plan to make or currently make Indiana his or her home.
5. Agree to help expand the program’s future success by becoming an active alumnus and nominating a candidate(s) for each future class.
6. Remit a $500 fee for program participation before the first class session.  This may be done via a sponsor (see additional sponsor form).   Fee will be forfeited if class requirements are not met.  An additional trip fee (transportation and hotel) will be required prior to participation in the DC Trip.

Scholarships

Scholarships may be available to participants who are financially incapable of attending the proposed fall trip to Washington, D.C.
