Protect Marriage. Strengthen Civil Liberties.

Same-Sex “marriage” advocates are finally being honest with the people of Indiana. Today they announced the formation of “Hoosiers Unite for Marriage” and their goal of bringing same-sex marriage to Indiana. Among the list of member organizations is Freedom to Marry, a group out of New York City whose mission is to bring same-sex “marriage” to all 50 states. Freedom to Marry was a significant contributor to Freedom Indiana and their assault on the Marriage Amendment earlier this year.

Redefining marriage encourages more motherless and fatherless homes, when we obviously need fewer. All people are capable of loving children, but all the love in the world can’t turn a mother into a father or a father into a mother. Redefining marriage would further distance marriage from the needs of children and deny the importance of mothers and fathers. It would deny, as a matter of policy, the ideal that children need a mother and a father.

Redefining marriage would diminish the social pressures and incentives for husbands to remain with their wives and their biological children and for men and women to marry before having children. For many years the government has emphasized fatherhood and encouraged fathers to be a positive role model for their children and to contribute to their lives. Through fatherhood programs government has spent significant time and resources sending the message that fathers matter. By redefined marriage they will make fathers optional.

Redefining marriage is a direct and demonstrated threat to religious freedom that marginalizes those who affirm marriage as the union of a man and a woman.

Jack Phillips, wedding cake maker in Colorado, Elane Photography of New Mexico, Melissa and Aaron Klein of Oregon and countless others would tell you that the agenda we now face in Indiana will rob Hoosiers of their religious liberties and free speech rights if left unchecked. The “GLBT” P.C. Police is sweeping the nation and is just now turning its attention to Indiana. The agenda we are facing here in Indiana has been experienced in these and many other states, with traditional marriage supporters being fined, having their businesses attacked and even being threatened with jail time for merely refusing to give their tacit approval of homosexuality. If we let same-sex marriage advocates have their way here in Indiana, redefining marriage will only be the beginning of a long war against those who refuse to promote the “GLBT” brand.

The attack plan of the Left on this front is not a secret. We can see the experiences of many other states that are much farther down the road of “GLBT” appeasement. Today Leftist advocates claim that marriage must be redefined. Tomorrow business owners will be forced to support and promote homosexual unions, and then virtually any cause “GLBT” activists deem appropriate. Churches will be forced to abandon their conscience, marry homosexual couples and hire church leaders who are living in direct opposition to what the Scriptures teach regarding sexual purity. Anything short of this will be seen as intolerant and discriminatory.

As we are seeing across the country and oversees, adopting the “GLBT” agenda will impact adoption services, child custody, family law, what children are taught in government-run schools, professional licensing, counseling, religious freedom in academia, etc.

According to Freedom Indiana just months ago, their intention was not to bring same-sex "marriage" to Indiana. They stated repeatedly that their goal was solely to defeat the Marriage Amendment. Now, just months later, our marriage statute is being challenged in court and Leftist activists have revealed their true intentions.

It is far past time for lawmakers to address this threat. Lawmakers must finally allow voters to define marriage and pass new legislation to protect the civil liberties of Hoosiers citizens.

I read that soon U.S. District Court Judge Richard Young could be ruling on Indiana's SSM ban. I also read in his biography that he is a member of the Board of Visitors at the Indiana University Maurer School of Law. The school also has a LGBT Advisory Board. It seems to me that Judge Young could not be objective on this issue.

Amen! Let US vote!!!
The Truth is that the end game of this battle is to breakdown the foundational fabric of our nation - which is FAMILY!

Looking forward to 2016 when Indiana will turn back the tide of this sweeping liberal agenda.
