Could This Overturn Roe v. Wade?

Congress is finally making headway on issues concerning to the constitutional right to life.

Last week, the Republican-controlled House of Representatives passed legislation that would prohibit late-term abortions.

The legislation, called the “Pain-Capable Unborn Child Protection Act,” outlaws abortions after 20 weeks. At that point in the pregnancy, pain receptors are present and developed throughout the pre-born child’s body, causing the pre-born child to feel pain.

The legislation faces an uphill battle in the Senate, where the Republican majority is smaller than in the House.

Children born during and after the twentieth week of pregnancy regularly survive and live joyful lives. One such child, Micah, was born at 22 weeks. He is now five years old and is living a happy, healthy life, as chronicled in a recent Daily Signal documentary short.

Every individual person has been endowed by their Creator with the right to life. We are all created with inherent worth and dignity. Abortion robs the world of an infinitely valuable life, all while the victim develops in the place that should be safest---the mother’s womb.

This is why Indiana legislators passed HEA 1337, a law that bans sex-selective abortions and abortions that target preborn children with disabilities like down syndrome.

Unfortunately, a Planned Parenthood lawsuit seeking to overturn the law prevailed in court. Because of this ruling, preborn children of the wrong sex, or those with disabilities, can again be discriminated against and denied their right to life.

Thankfully, Attorney General Curtis Hill recognizes the inhumanity of these procedures. He plans to appeal the judge’s decision.

But we have a long way to go in ensuring that every child’s right to life is honored, respected, and defended.

Stand with IFI to defend human life.
